Cetaphil Reformulates Its Iconic Skincare Product & Launches Project Clear Skies

By Grace Myu - September 16, 2022

Back in August, I was one of the lucky few to attend @CetaphilMY’s Clear Skies initiative event, celebrating their 75 years of heritage. Cetaphil is a household name when it comes to dermatological skincare, and it's the no 1. dermatological skincare brand in Malaysia. If you ever had acne problems, this brand would be your go-to, to reset your skin barrier and calm your skin.

Being a Cetaphil user since 2014, I'm glad to have witnessed multiple changes within the brand. I felt really honoured to be one of the first in Malaysia to learn about Cetaphil’s 2022 new and improved formula - now made with a blend of niacinamide, panthenol, glycerin, free of parabens/SLS!

Previously, I do see paraben/SLS listed in the ingredients list but did not think much of it because the formula really works on my skin. I know the clean beauty movement is trying to scare users into avoiding all "nasty" stuff, But during the event, we learned that the said ingredients are included to stabilize the product and it adheres to the industry standard, in order to be marketed to the masses.

This year, Galderma and Cetaphil announce a renewed commitment to environmental sustainability through Clear Skies initiative. As Cetaphil is at the forefront of treating sensitive skin, it is also the brand's mission to continuously contribute to short-term and long-term environmental change.

Through the Clear Skies initiative, Cetaphil is committed to:

○ Formulating with cleaner ingredients
Starting with the four of its most iconic, best-selling products: Gentle Skin Cleanser, Oily Skin Cleanser, Moisturizing Lotion, and Moisturizing Cream - these are now made with readily biodegradable formulas, with additional products to be reformulated in the future. These reformulated products are free of parabens, sulfates, and animal origin ingredients, and are not tested on animals at any stage of product innovation, development, or manufacturing processes.

○ Using smarter packaging
Cetaphil uses mostly mono-material containers and closures that are in part recyclable, so containers and packaging can be recycled at most facilities. Additionally, most products use containers and closure systems that come apart, making them easier to sort. The paper-based packaging is made with renewable and biodegradable materials.

○ Reducing environmental impact
Since 2010, Galderma and Cetaphil have reduced water consumption by 33% per ton of product, through programs to recycle and reuse it in factories and research facilities. The company also reduced its annual CO² emissions from factories by over 60%, by using more efficient technology and renewable sources of electricity. Currently, 95% of the electricity that powers its factories come from renewable resources, and none of the waste from factories ends up in a landfill.

Here's what I brought home from the event!

I was fortunate to bring home a set of their new and improved products (yay!) 🤩 This launch introduces formulas and ingredients that are science-backed such as niacinamide, panthenol, and glycerin, and free of parabens/SLS!

Here's a closeup of the texture --

Cetaphil cleansers

Gentle Skin Cleanser:
Clinically proven continuous hydration to protect against dryness.
97% of users agreed skin felt instantly softer after rinsing.

Oily Skin Cleanser:
Clinically proven to deep clean skin without stripping.
100% of users agreed it cleansed away dirt and impurities.

Cetaphil moisturizers

Moisturizing Lotion:
Clinically proven soothing and lightweight hydration for 48 hours.
94% of users reported that skin felt fully hydrated after one use.

Moisturizing Cream:
Clinically proven immediate and intense hydration for 48 hours.
97% of users reported that skin seems more hydrated over time.

My personal fave is Cetaphil Gentle Skin Cleanser as it actively hydrates and cleanses without stripping the skin’s natural oils. Whenever I experience breakouts (thanks to constant testing products), my go-to skin reset is the OG Gentle Skin Cleanser, no joke! This cleanser has been with me since 2014, and it has been always gentle on my sensitive skin.

I always start my skincare routine with a good cleanse with the Gentle Skin Cleanser, followed by Moisturizing Lotion for AM or Moisturizing Cream for PM.
