Wednesday, 28 February 2018
1 Utama Shopping Centre is a place where I frequent for hassle-free shopping; it has almost all the brands I love and it also is the Biggest Shopping Mall in Malaysia and it boasts the 4th Biggest Shopping Mall in the World, as recognized by CNN.

So far, 1 Utama has been around for 22 years now (since Aug 1995), and most of us in the Klang Valley are familiar with Old Wing and New Wing. But this year in 2018, 1 Utama is adding a new building called,

Positioned as the next "World Class Sports Tourism Destination" and "Entertainment Lifestyle Esplanade", 1 Utama E aims to attract visitors, both locally and internationally with the tagline Excite, Entertain and Exhilarate.

1 Utama E is located closer to the Old Wing, where it also houses the newly built Bandar Utama MRT station (as seen in the pic above).

What I like about these two new additions to the mall is that I can actually host events or parties at these places! They have event packages for this sort of arrangement so you can call to inquire within!

Personally, I haven't had the chance to try them out yet due to bad weather during the opening, but I got passes to these two facilities so I will update here once I get the chance to!

Additional Info:
Other than FlowRider and AirRider, 1 Utama also houses other unique health and fitness centres such as Camp5 (Asia’s largest indoor rock climbing gym), Sealantis (PADI 5-star scuba diving centre), Celebrity Fitness (lifestyle gym), Padang (rooftop futsal) and It’s A Hit Batting Cages (South East Asia’s 1st and only automated baseball and softball centre) for a complete lifestyle experience.

Althea Holiday Edition: ✨ Black Sparkling Box✨ Review

I got myself another Althea Box and this time it's the Christmas 2017 special -

I got this box about one month back and somehow MAGICALLY  it is still on the site for sale! Althea boxes are curated specifically for a theme and this box is catered for those who are getting ready for a πŸŽ„ Christmas / Year End Party πŸŽ†  in a "black" or smoky theme.

Do note that Althea Korea sells all Korean Beauty products and ships them directly from Korea, so what you're getting is truly the REAL DEAL. What I like about Althea is that they provide -

Ok, enough with the chit-chat, and let's see these are worth the buy!

#01. Son & Park - All That Smoky Kit

What It Is:
A compact eyeshaodw kit that comes with 6 colours: 3 shimmers and 3 mattes.
Shimmers: Clear Stone (pearl), Brass (gold) & Iron Lilac (purplish gray)
Mattes: Tobu (nude), Brownie (deep brown) & Charcoal (black)

My Review:
Usually Asian-made eyeshadows fail me because of how patchy and chalky they can be. For arm swatches (as seen in the above pic), they turned out great because I applied some eye primer underneath. However when it comes to blending onto my eyes, it's a different story! The shades are not as pigmented as I would like them to be, and it is quite difficult to blend!

Turns out that I was pretty bad at applying them and ended up as a panda 🐼 lol~
Truth is, I only like two shades - Tobu (to set my eye primer) and Iron Lilac (to deepen the outer sides of my eyes and plus, the colour is unique). I honestly do not really like using this compact palette, but the colour payoff is decent. I wouldn't repurchase this because it's expensive on its own and I'd still reach for other eyeshadows in my stash tbh.

This eyeshadow palette is worth RM100+ on ecommerce sites, so getting this box at RM120 is definitely a BARGAIN!

#02 April Skin - Magic Snow Cushion 2.0 (2016 New!) Shade 23

What It Is:
April Skin is a brand that is not foreign to Kbeauty fans - because they produce BB Cushions that have earned a cult status! April Skin BB Cushions are known for its high coverage that gives its users a flawless, cakeless finish. For this new version, it is made with 45% moisture serum that would ensure your skin is hydrated throughout the day! Its mochi-shaped cushion dispenses the right amount when pressed with the puff that comes with it.

My Review:
This is my very first time using a BB cushion by April Skin, and I can conclude that ...
It gives me a medium coverage, which is sufficient to cover my uneven skin tone and it provides me with a semi-matte, satin finish
Longevity wise, it sits well on my skin until it starts fading on my nose after 3-4 hours. But nothing with a quick touch up can't do! I admit it's a little upsetting, but hey most BB Cushions can't really mattify my (problematic) nose area, only foundations can.
Repurchase - maybe, if it is within RM50 range.
I'm more of a high coverage, foundation gal.

This BB cushion is currently retailed at RM82 on Althea with a rating of 4.4 stars by 72 reviewers.

#03 RiRe - Gel Eyeliner in Shade 01 Kill Black

What It Is:
A crayon gel eyeliner that helps define your eyes for both upper and lower waterline. No edgy girl look is complete without this! This can be smudged for that smoky eye effect or can be used to just define the eyes. It comes with a sharpener so that you can achieve that sharp wing look.

My Review:
As with most gel crayon eyeliners, this doesn't beat liquid eyeliner when it comes to achieving that sharp wing look. You would need to use a flat slant brush to help line the wing tightly and to get a sharp wing.
This gel eyeliner definitely does help opens up my eyes (as seen in pic above) and it lasts pretty long on my waterline because it's waterproof. However, it may move around after some time (especially when coming in contact with sweat or tears) so it isn't exactly 100% transfer-proof.

This gel eyeliner is currently retailed at RM18 on Althea with a rating of 4.3 stars by 58 reviewers.

#04 Missha - The Style 4D Mascara

What It Is:
A volumizing and lengthening mascara that gives a 4D effect for fluttery lashes.

My Review:
This doesn't really impress me, in fact this is the most disappointing product of the box IMHO (sorry to say)! It doesn't perform as well as my other mascaras and I have used better mascaras in this lifetime. It doesn't volumize, it just lengthens a little bit. Definitely will pass this on.
As one reviewer, Ana C. says,
"If you're looking for vavavoom lashes, this really isn't the product for you;
But for the everyday natural "no makeup-makeup" person, I think you'd totally love this.
I like using this mascara when I know I'm going to use some false lashes because it keeps the curl up and manages to look natural and mesh well with the falsies.
Value for money is really great too!"

Missha 4D mascara is priced RM16 on Althea with a rating of 4.5 by 227 reviewers (at this point of time).

Althea Holiday Edition: Black Sparking Box was sent to me for review purposes and it currently retails for RM120. It is still available for sale on the website, so go grab it while you still can!

How I Spend Chinese New Year Together with My Families

Friday, 23 February 2018
The view of Penang Bridge.

Every Chinese New Year, for as long as I can remember - I will always travel back to Penang by car with my immediate family from Kuala Lumpur, to visit my grandmother. There are the 5 of us: my parents, me (the eldest child), my younger sister and younger brother. The car can get a little crowded sometimes with the extra luggage (which doesn't fit into the boot) but my parents always made it interesting by playing some games or telling some stories to keep us entertained!

And when in Penang, there is always ONE STOP that we will never miss - the chendul (shaved ice dessert) road stall along Lebuh Keng Kwee. No matter how long the line is, we will queue patiently to get our bowl of chendul each.

The usual queue at Lebuh Keng Kwee, Penang.

This is the iconic bowl of Penang chendul (shaved ice with coconut milk, gula melaka, red beans and pandan jelly).

Enjoying a bowl of Chendul in sunny Penang.

My father is originally from Penang thus this very bowl of chendul is something that he grew up eating every single time he is in the area. So whenever we are in Penang, my father always makes it a point to bring us to eat together. It is relatively cheap (RM2.90 per bowl the last time I checked) and it makes a cool quenching dessert for the sunny Penang island weather.

This is one of the traditions that we upheld up until this day though having the same chendul now is relatively easier as my boyfriend recently opened the franchise outlet in Sunway Velocity!

Aside from my immediate family, there is also my boyfriend's family to consider. There are 5 of them in the family (father, mother, sister, brother), but if I were to count in with their partners as well, there are the 8 of us! As we live under the same roof, we do things together as a family quite often.

For annual CNY Reunion Dinners, my boyfriend's family will take up most of the seats (other families have an average of 4-5 people). It makes us feel very special like a strong sense of kinship within our family.

My boyfriend's immediate family.

Our family takes up most of the table seatings in one table (seen above).

Thus Chinese New Year is really a busy period for most Chinese families and it is vital to stay healthy throughout the season (CNY lasts for 15 days!) to enjoy the celebrations. My families (both immediate and boyfriend's) always have medicine on standby, just in case any of us fall sick.

You'll be glad to know that this Chinese New Year, Panadol ActiFast is helping you get back to the moments that matter, quickly.

Just purchase RM15 worth of Panadol at any Guardian store and Whatsapp/MMS your receipt to +6011-11266930 by Friday 2 March for your chance to win a trip to Disneyland Hong Kong or RM500 worth of shopping vouchers!

Every submission will receive a special gift.
Terms and conditions apply. Visit for details.

Happy Chinese New Year and wishing you an abundance of health & wealth for this festive season!

REVIEW: AQUTOP skincare & bodycare

Thursday, 22 February 2018
I am not foreign to the brand Aqutop, as I have received in my Althea beauty box previously (you can check out the post here). I only tried their water colour blusher (makeup) but I wasn't aware that they made skincare products as well! Thus when the opportunity arose to try their skincare products, I was shook because their water colour blusher gave me a nice, sweet surprise whenever I use it.

This time, I was offered these products for trial by Breezewide (a kbeauty site, in partnership with Beureka) and I didn't receive any monetary compensation for these so what I'm about to share is my honest personal thoughts and opinions.

I received 3 items in this package: 1 x face cleanser, 1 x face moisturizer, 1 x body lotion

Each of these were packaged and sealed individually.

A little background on AQUTOP, it derives from the word AQUA (water/moisture) and TOP (best/barrier). It positions itself as a professional brand that specializes for moisture. It originates from Korea in 2015 and entered into Singapore market through Sasa stores in 2017.

So now we've got the ball rolling ...

* Let's begin! *

AQUTOP Perfect Clean Cleansing Foam Black Bean

What It Is
A face cleanser made with geminating Black Bean extracts instead of purified water, this cleanser is suitable for all skin types. The main ingredients are:
• Geminating Black Bean Extract - softens skin
• Soapwort Leaf Extract - naturally derived cleansing substances, removes wastes
• Portulaca Extract - prevents dry skin, reliefs irritation

How To Use
Add some water and mix the solution with both hands, forming small bubbles. Put the lather onto onto face and massage gently. Rinse with water once done.

The Good
Truth be told, I have many bad experiences in the past with cleansers that claim "suitable for ALL skin types". They would dry out my skin but this one DOESN'T! I'm glad that this one cleans my face gently though it is a foam cleanser (foams are usually linked to drying). It doesn't have any fragrance to it and it is really affordable too!

The Bad
Couldn't find anything bad about this πŸ’•

Retails for RM75 for 2 x 100ml on Beureka Qoo10, which means one tube is just RM37.50!
That's really affordable I'd say!

AQUTOP Moisturizing Signature Tone-Up Cream

What It Is
A face moisturizer that doubles up as a skin brightener and wrinkle reducer.
It contains 'Celbioniqu', AQUTOP's Signature Water instead of purified water.
Other ingredients also include:
• Elecampane Flower Extract - brightening, glowing skin
• Phytosphingosine - relief skin troubles, skin recovery
• Flower Complex - vitality, brightening
• Collagen - glowing skin, prevention of moisture evaporation

How To Use
As the last step of skincare, use this during the daytime. This will leave a slight whitish cast over your face for a brightening effect, thus its suitable as a makeup base as well.

The Good
Though this cream is on the thick side, it absorbs into the skin fairly quickly. If you don't use foundation, this will act as a CC (colour correcting) cream to adjust or "tone up" your skintone. I have sensitive skin, and I'm glad to say that it doesn't irritate my skin or give unsightly bumps on my face.

The Bad
I personally don't like creams that leave a whitish cast. If you are one who doesn't use makeup, you may like this, but use sparingly as too much could leave you looking like a zombie πŸ˜†

Retails RM165 for 50ml on Beureka Qoo10.

AQUTOP Smoothing Signature Tone-Up Body Lotion

What It Is
Similar to the face moisturizer, this is made for the body. It contains:
• Celbioniqu Water - fast absorption, keep skin moist
• Elecampane extract - brightening
• Niacinamide - brightening

How To Use
Apply onto body after shower, including arms and legs.

The Good
Instantly brightens and evens up your skintone! The moisture levels were long lasting and it remained until my next shower 😲

The Bad
Quite pricey for 100ml because body requires more product naturally and this will finish very fast if used every shower.

Retails for RM150 for 100ml on Beureka Qoo10.

REVIEW: Vella Ultra Hydro Sun Essence

Saturday, 10 February 2018
Follow my blog with Bloglovin

As someone who has sensitive skin, it is difficult for me to find a skincare that is gentle yet effective. Plus with the laziness of applying layers of product after product, I tend to skip out wearing sun protection sometimes because I spend most of my days indoors. It is still not ideal because I do come in contact with the sun indirectly even when I'm indoors.

So for someone like me who tends to forget about sun protection, it is essential to find a sun protection that is enjoyable to use, so that I will keep coming back for it.

I find my problems with most sun protections are:
- undesirable white cast
- weird scent
- thick consistency, making it too long to dry
- unsuitable ingredient(s), leading to breakouts
- messy reapplication

So when I saw Vella Ultra Hydro Sun Essence, it attracted me to try it because it is a water-based sun protection with UV protection, whitening and anti-aging benefits all-in-one bottle.
Also the packaging is quite compact and sleek, fitting easily into the palm of my hand.

It has a watery liquid consistency, which is made up of 61% Hawaii Kona deep ocean water, 30 kinds if ocean plants extracts and 45 kinds of plants extracts.

According to the info, this sun essence is safe and clinically proven, which makes it suitable for all skin types. What I also like about this product is that it is free of 7 nasties:
❌  Paraben
❌  Artificial pigment
❌  Mineral oil
❌  Benzophenone
❌  Talc
❌  Benzyl Alcohol
❌  Sulfate

When I first pour the sun essence onto my palm, it has a faint yellow glittery colour with a slight citrus scent. But as I apply and massage it onto my face, it becomes transparent and leaves no unsightly residue !(•̀α΄—•́)و ̑̑

Left side (with nose stud): with Vella sun essence. Right side: without Vella sun essence.

As you can observe from the pic above, it does leave my skin with a slight healthy glow instead of oily look. I like that it absorbs very quickly into my skin and I can proceed to start with my makeup almost immediately after that.

This has a sun protection of 50+ SPF PA+++ thus it is sufficient for daily use in our Malaysian climate.

Personally, I might repurchase if it is around RM40 ish. Perhaps RM58 is still a little too pricey for me because of the total content (30ml).

Vella Ultra Hydro Sun Essence can be purchased on Althea Korea website at RM58.

A:Concept Make Your Concept Box - Black Set

Remember awhile back I mentioned that Korean beauties focus only two things in their makeup purse - BB Cushion & Lipsticks?
Well, guess what?

I have found a
that you can bring around easily without taking up much bag space!

Presenting you,

This is definitely a dream to carry around because of how compact it is!
Also, this product is refillable - which means you can switch your lipstick and/or cushion whenever you fancy!

Basically, the BB Cushion connector is where you (sneakily) keep your lipstick!

This set comes with -
1 x BB Cushion cover
2 x BB Cushion (I got shade 23)
2 x lipsticks

The lipsticks comes in two shades: Coral & Red Orange.
The Coral shade has a high shine finish while the Red Orange has a matte velvet finish.

According to The Butterfly Project,
"Girl's Generation's Taeyeon shares that her No.1 Makeup Secret is using A:Concept's all-in-one brightening cushion compact (whitening, anti-wrinkle, UV protection) and lipstick. Even Girl's Generation's makeup artist, Seo Ok choose A:Concept's brightening cushion."

This cushion claims to have whitening, anti-wrinkle and UV protection thus it really is "all-in-one".
I used the shade in 23 as that is closer to my skintone.

As you can see in the pics above, I only used the product one side of my face (the side with nose piercing) to demonstrate the Before and After.

The coverage is medium and it diminishes the appearance of enlarged pores (as you can see on my nose). It does give a slight brightening effect too.

After a while, if you do not pat your face with finishing powder, the coverage somewhat disappears. Sad but true.
Thus I encourage you to use this with powder to ensure it lasts all day.

This RED lipstick is a bright warm undertone and is perfect for a bold look.
I personally like the finishing and it does last longer than the other lip colour because of its matte velvet finishing. It is comfortable to apply and wear it on a daily basis.

This crayon texture lip/cheek duo has a glossy finish and it is safe to apply on cheeks and lips! This is a great alternative for days you just wanna keep it simple.

As you can see from the pics, I think I look pretty good with the Red lipstick! I love wearing that lipstick on days when I just need a splash of colour for an instant perk-me-up!

If you are looking for a BB cushion that doubles up as a lip/cheek product, PLEASE CONSIDER THIS SET! This is great even as a gift πŸŽ for a girlfriend, sister or mother - especially one who is always on the go!

This set is originally sold on Althea Korea's website however now it is no longer available on the site.
Nevertheless, you can still search for it on A:Concept's official website and it retails for USD 46.27.

Do register for Althea Korea's newsletters so that you get first dips on their latest promos from time to time! Trust me, the mailers contain promo codes - so you definitely don't want to miss those out πŸ˜‰
