Taiwanese Skincare Brand, Dr Wu Arrives to Watsons Malaysia! + Hydrating System Product Review

Wednesday, 23 August 2017
Disclaimer: These products were sent to me for reviewing purposes and I have not been compensated in any way to review these. All thoughts and opinions are purely my own.

Hello readers!

Today I will be sharing my product review on Dr Wu Hydrating System range. This skincare is catered to my skin type (dry and sensitive) and it has been almost 2 months since I tried these out. I'm already halfway through most of the products and I am done with the masks and moisturizer.

Background on DR.WU: Taiwan’s NO.1 Clinical Skincare
DR.WU, the leading medical skincare brand in Taiwan was founded in 2003 by the renowned dermatologist Dr. Ying-Chin Wu, along with his eldest son Eric Wu. With 40 years of vast clinical experiences and extensive research on skin structure, and a formula based on doctor’s prescription, DR.WU has created a technologically-advanced skincare line of high potency products for sensitive skin. With these products, customers are able to enjoy skincare just like having a doctor perform
medical treatments at home, maintaining a perfect complexion through the most simple yet effect
ways. Our philosophy behind our work is to bring about non-surgical solutions in enhancing one’s
beauty and wellness.

Dr Wu Hydrating Gel Cleanser with Hyaluronic Acid
Suitable For: Dehydrated and Sensitive Skin
Texture: Soft gel
Colour: Clear
Scent: Mild to none
After using this product: I'm happy that this doesn't lather up much as I dislike foam cleansers generally. I usually use Cetaphil Gentle Skin Cleanser as my cleanser and this isn't too bad for a change. Compared to Cetaphil, I feel this actually hydrates my skin more and it has more beneficial ingredients for my skin. As a happy user of Cetaphil, I can really feel the pinch when buying this cleanser because I could get up to 1,500ml of product for the same price of this Dr Wu cleanser. I really like this cleanser, but the price is the drawback honestly. Perhaps I would repurchase if it's around the RM60-80 range.
Price: RM129 for 150ml

Dr Wu Intensive Hydrating Toner with Hyaluronic Acid
Suitable For: Dehydrated and Normal Skin
Texture: Sticky gel liquid
Colour: Clear
Scent: Very mild to none
After using this product: It is usually difficult for me to find a toner that I dislike and this is one of them! I dislike the way the product dispenses from the bottle because the tackiness of the liquid is a challenge to come out! I would prefer it if it came in a pump bottle instead for easier dispensary. Also, I don't really like the texture because it does not absorb well into my cotton pads and slides off easily onto the floor when not careful! Thus I recommend using this product with your hands instead or just be VERY careful with cotton pads. Though it is very tacky, it surprised me by absorbing quickly (than expected) onto my face. My face is well hydrated but because of its texture and dispensary method, I would not repurchase this toner.
Price: RM120 for 150ml

Dr Wu Hydrating Glacier Water with Hyaluronic Acid
Suitable For: Normal and Sensitive Skin
Texture: Fine mist
Colour: None
Scent: None
After using this product: I LOVE THIS FACE MIST! I like that I can hold down the nozzle for as long as I want while the product pumps itself out into a fine mist! Compared to other face mists in the market, this Dr Wu face mist actually gives a cool minty sensation INSTANTLY! It feels as though as my temperature can be instantly reduced when the mist comes in contact. YES I WOULD REPURCHASE THIS! This is the best product, in my opinion, from the range.
Price: RM99 for 250ml

Dr Wu Intensive Hydrating Gel with Hyaluronic Acid
Suitable For: Dehydrated and Sensitive Skin
Texture: Soft gel
Colour: White
Scent: Light clinical scent
After using this product: This gel moisturizer sinks into my skin very quickly. I'm glad that this doesn't cause any reactions, as it is made for my skin type after all! I like it that it comes with a spatula for hygiene purposes too. However I do feel it is pricey the amount of product that I'm getting and I feel that there are other similar moisturizers in the market that can give the same effect for a fraction of the price.
Price: RM179 for 30ml

Dr Wu Ultimate Hydrating Mask with Hyaluronic Acid
Suitable For: Dehydrated and Sensitive Skin
Texture: Thick runny liquid
Colour: Clear
Scent: Almost none
Price: RM95 for 3's
After using this product: My skin feels refreshed! Though it's a little on the pricey side, it's a great quick skin booster, especially when you are planning to attend a big event the next day! The effect lasts up to a few days. I'm impressed!

Althea Beauty Box: Birthday Makeup Edition #AltheaTurns2

Tuesday, 22 August 2017
July was a CRAZYYY MONTH at ALTHEALAND because it was a month long of
BIRTHDAY CELEBRATIONS!

They had so many activities, giveaways and ongoing contests . . . . .
and not forgetting a
💄  💄  💄  💄  💄  💄  💄  💄  💄  💄

If you are not acquainted with
Althea's Beauty Boxes:
It is a specially curated box according to a theme, by the creative people at Althea HQ.
It is usually made up of 5-10 items, priced around RM110-130
(super discounted from about RM300-700!)
It is also worth noting that it will be VERY QUICKLY SOLD OUT upon launching on the site.
Most likely on the same day itself.
(So if you ever see one available, my advice is to
POUNCE ON IT and DON'T SECOND THINK IT!)

A lot of beauty companies have monthly subscription boxes,
whereby you will get a "surprise" every month before you purchase a box.
The surprise could either be good or bad because
you will not know the contents of it until the moment you receive it!

So to avoid all the unwanted bad surprises,
you could actually view the contents of the box
BEFORE purchasing Althea Beauty Boxes,
isn't that great?
😍  😍  😍

These beauty boxes are not limited to one theme per month,
sometimes you could get up to TWO or THREE different themes each month!

So in conjunction with #AltheaTurns2,
what better way to commemorate it than with their very own
BIRTHDAY MAKEUP BOX?

The above are the actual contents of the Birthday Makeup Box, which I received.
And below is the makeup look I created, using ONLY products from the box!
(no filter was used)

The Birthday Makeup Box is priced RM120 for 8 products worth RM480!
As a Chinese, we are taught to always score a great bargain and when we do succeed,
it feels like a LIFE ACHIEVEMENT UNLOCKED!
😂

Here are the products that came inside the box:

#1 My Beauty My Beauty Mask Sheet Red Ginseng (2 pieces)

To ensure your makeup stays all day long, this mask preps the skin by keeping it hydrated!
Hydrogel masks are very popular in Korea, because it retains moisture onto the skin longer.
This mask is FREE from harmful ingredients such as formaldehyde, paraben, sulfate amine, mineral oil, benzyl alcohol, silicone, coal tar dyes and animal-derived ingredient. The ginseng in this mask is 100% grown in Korea, and its known for its high antioxidant properties. My Beauty Hydrogel Masks contain 12.5ppm of 99.9% pure gold, which is known for its skin aging prevention.

#2 Secret Key Finish Up BB Blemish Balm Cream 30ml

This BB cream comes in a small black plastic packaging, which is convenient for travels. It claims to have zero oxidization with a natural finish. I would say the coverage is pretty sheer but is buildable to medium, with careful layering. It does cover up many discolouration (as you can see my picture above) but I kinda dislike the slight grey hue colour it gives. However it isn't a problem because it photographs nicely even without a filter!

I would personally prefer to use this under foundation, but that's just me because I'm someone who loves higher coverage. If you enjoy using light products for everyday wear, this is for you!

#3 W.Lab 3D Face Stick Lovely Stick 01 Pink Chou Cream

This cream blusher is a no-brainer by its practicality. You only need to draw a V-shape onto the apples of your cheeks and blend with clean fingers. Infused with raspberry and cherry blossom extract, this blusher is quite pigmented and has no fragrance.

Normally I dislike cream blushers because if I put on my face powder first, I would make a mess after that by placing a cream product on my face. But surprisingly this cream blusher doesn't move my powder in any way, instead it sits on top nicely after blended out. The coverage is pretty sheer and natural looking. I was pleasantly surprised by this underrated gem!

#4 Son&Park All that Shadow Kit

Looking at the multiple functions of this palette, this is
HANDS DOWN
my most favourite product
of this beauty box!!!

This product can be used to as an eyeshadow, shade your nose, fill in your brows, and draw a line as an eyeliner. Personally I think most Korean colour makeup products are quite sheer, and this is exactly that. It gives out a soft colour payout and great for everyday look.

#5 Holika Holika Wonder Drawing 24hr Auto Eyeliner Black

A crayon eyeliner is what I usually use to line my inner eyelids and this gets the job done pretty easily! It is a gel type formula that adheres easily onto my eyes without any irritation and the colour payoff is excellent! However this will wear off throughout the day and you might need to touch up when needed.

To be honest, this is my first time using an "eye fixer". I am familiar to facial sprays to set my makeup, but something specifically made for the eyes!

The tip is really sharp and small, which is easy to get into little corners of the eyes. This product is said to be used over your eyeshadow, eyebrows and mascara to ensure it stays in place all day.

I'm not sure whether this product makes a difference onto my eye makeup because I did not use it long enough to see a difference yet. However I'm glad that this doesn't "move" my eye makeup around and it does dries down into slightly "glossy" texture after application!

A look wouldn't be 100% complete without lipstick. This is my first time using VDL products (VDL is under the LG Group (The Color Lab of LG Household & Health Care) and I've read a lot of makeup users loving the brand.

The packaging of this lipstick is VERY SLEEK, it is long and slim - more of a pencil instead. The plastic cover has some kind of weight to it, and it feels expensive in my hands. As I turned the dial up, I noticed a very pink hue from the cap. Thank God I didn't turned up much because I couldn't turn the dial back down! This is one of those things where it can only go up but not come down
*le sigh*
Thus you have to be careful when handling this product, else you may be wasting unnecessarily!

This lipstick glides very smoothly onto my lips, like an amazing lip butter instead! The texture is soft and feels very moisturizing onto my lips *YAY*
I have used a lot of matte lipsticks in the past year and I appreciate this softness for a change.
Longevity is quite great, it can last quite a long time without eating or drinking anything. Touch ups are not really necessary for me while using this lipstick!

Freebies that Came with the Beauty Box!

Althea sometimes throw in some goodies together (especially when it's a huge haul) as a common practice of Korean beauty brands! If you shop in a South Korea beauty shop, they'd usually give you samples to try out in store. But you won't be missing that out when you shop online at Althea too!

a) Pure Smile Neco Punch Point Pads

b) Skinature Pig Collagen Second Skin Mask - Lift Up
c) Promo code for next purchase
d) Various skincare samples

e) Real Beauty One Shot Ample (white jade) face serum

f) Half Moon Eyes Pink Fruity Face Mask

That sums up my recent Althea beauty haul!

I'm thinking to do a
"Top 10 Products to get from Althea Shopping Guide"
for my next blogpost,
especially I'm sure many of you have heard of Althea,
but not sure what to get yet.

I already have a few products in mind because I use them on a regular basis!
You can also read on my previous Althea hauls, to get an idea what I have gotten from Althea so far!

Let me know in the comments section if you too have a kbeauty addiction and would love to know what to get next?
